Planting
Recommendations for Buck Busters Fall Seed Mix
|
|
1. Optimum planting time in most
locations is Sept. 1 - Oct. 15 in the southeast but can be planted
earlier or later in more northern and southern locations. Plant 60
days before first average frost date in fall.
|
|
2. 50 - 100 lbs per acre. 100 lbs
optimum, especially in poor soil and/or heavy grazing pressure. 50
lbs. minimum, rich soil and/or light grazing pressure.
|
|
3. Soil tests are recommended. A pH of
6.0 - 6.5 is desirable. Rape is sensitive to boron deficiency.
|
|
4. Soil should be well tilled and
seeds should be lightly covered 1/4 - 1/2 inch deep.
|
|
5. No till: fair to good results can
be obtained with no till. Burn down with Glyphosate or any other
burn down herbicide (desirable but not critical), bush hog as low
to the ground as possible, seed through the sod, fertilize as
recommended.
|
| 6. Fertilizer
recommendations: Fall |
| LSU recommends
the following rates per acre: |
| 13-13-13
....................... 200 - 300 lbs. |
| or |
| Ammonia Nitrate
......... 75 - 100 lbs. |
| |
| We recommend: |
| 13-13-13 at
planting .......100 - 200 lbs. |
| and 30-60 days
later |
| Ammonia Nitrate
........... 100 - 200 lbs. |
|
|
7. Fertilizer recommendations: Spring
(optional) Fertilize again as spring green up begins: 50 lbs. per
acre of Ammonia Nitrate
|
|
8. Let plants mature. As soon as the
turkey and deer consume the mature seed pods (about one week),
prepare the seed bed for Buck Busters Summer Food Plot Mix
